The Masons have their origin from the Masonic Guild of the Middle Ages. It is known that the Masons have had their own organisation since the 13th century, where they made a hut and hence the name lodge. It is not easy for the sworn-in Free Mason or for the objective and non-associated researcher to determine the exact origin of the Order (Van Niekerk, F.N. 1960:73 and Bailey, 1957:26).
