Death merely means the separation of the mortal physical remains from the spiritual person. The Bible teaches that when someone dies, the mortal body returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it (Gen. 3:19; Eccles. 12:7). James explains it as follows:
“For as the body without the spirit is dead…” (James 2:26).
The question is if the spirit leaves the body, where does it go and what becomes of it? Does it go to a definite place of safe-keeping?
