God’s names are his own self-disclosure in his Word, and they are the focal point of his revelation. Therefore the own naming and disclosure reveals fundamental truths regarding God and his relationship with man. God’s names are essentially God himself. Those who know your name will trust in you (Ps 9:10).
As an expression of his essence, the name of God is not a temporary role He plays for a limited time. God will keep to his names; his names are the sign of God’s faithfulness; towards himself and towards those to whom He gives his name. God’s decision to make people in his own image (Gen 1:26) was first and foremost a decision about himself. He came out of his inner life and devised to never be without us again, to live forever only one way: as our God.
